This Addiction Medicine Fellowship Director position will lead a groundbreaking initiative to address the opioid overdose crisis in urban Milwaukee, WI. This role involves directing the Addiction Medicine Fellowship Program, which prioritizes the delivery of low-threshold Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) services at the Forest Home Health Center and inpatient care at Froedtert Hospital.
This position will spearhead workforce development to alleviate the shortage of clinicians equipped to treat opioid use disorders, with a specific focus on health equity, community partnerships, and sustainable medical education. This role will involve significant teaching, advising fellows, residents, and medical students, and participating in scholarly activities.
This dynamic fellowship has been designed by Addiction Medicine Faculty at the Medical College of Wisconsin and is looking for a dynamic leader focus on implentation. Fellows will provide outpatient care at the Forest Home Health Center, a Family Medicine Residency clinic focused on caring for an underserved urban latin-x community in Milwaukee. The Forest Home Health Center has integrated behavioral health support and case management for patients with comorbid psychiatric issues and substance use disorders. Fellows will have opportunities to provide continuity methadone management at an IOP and also provide residential treatment at an established residential recovery facility focused on caring for women. Fellows will provide inpatient care at 2 large academic health centers: Froedtert Hospital and the VA Zablocki Medical center. Fellows will have the opportunity to interact with trainees in the ER toxicology fellowship, Anesthesia Pain Medicine Fellowship, and Psychiatric consultation services at Froedtert. The fellowship program has grant funds to support additional Continuing Medical Education and development activities. Key Roles & Responsibilities:
1) Implement a fellowship curriculum that emphasizes low-threshold MOUD services, addiction care, mental health services, and primary care, particularly for vulnerable populations in Milwaukee’s most affected communities
2) Provide full scope addiction medicine care and primary care services to people who use drugs (PWUD) at the Forest Home Health Center, as well as supervise inpatient consultation services at Froedtert Hospital
3) Precept & mentor fellows, developing their clinical & behavioral health skills and scholarship in addiction medicine and fostering a compassionate, biopsychosocial approach to care
